Nambucca Valley Council is seeking an Aboriginal Community Development Officer to work in genuine partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, organisations and communities across the local government area.
This is an approved identified position for an Aboriginal person. This part-time position supports reconciliation, cultural awareness and inclusive community engagement, provides trusted cultural advice to Council and contributes to positive outcomes for Aboriginal people.
What You'll Do
- Act as the initial point of contact for Aboriginal community matters
- Build strong, respectful relationships using culturally appropriate engagement practices
- Facilitate the Aboriginal Advisory Committee and support partnership networks
- Lead the development and implementation of Council's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
- Support NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week activities
- Provide cultural advice and guidance to Council staff
What you'll bring
- This is an Aboriginal-identified position - applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contemporary issues
- Demonstrated community engagement and relationship-building experience
- Experience in community development, project coordination or similar
- High-level written and verbal communication skills
- Current Class C Driver Licence
Knowledge of Gumbaynggirr culture, qualifications in community engagement and prior local government experience are highly regarded.
